Our Story

A passion which led to the creation of delhibird Foundation

One day, Nikhil Devasar who was born and brought up in Delhi, decided to take a closer look at nature and wildlife. This enchanted journey was the beginning of a new relationship with birds and nature. Which eventually led to the creation of delhibird.

Way back in 2000, he organised his first weekend walk with only 2 participants. And today the delhibird group has 50,000+ members who are both amateur & professional birdwatchers from age group 4 to 84. From building awareness in India to representing the Indian birder fraternity at a global level, delhibird team have been leading the way.

Nikhil Devasar

Founder

Nikhil is the founder of delhibird Foundation. Being based in Delhi he decided to explore its spaces and revived the delhibird club, an ornithological group that had been non-operational for many years. He conducts awareness & education programs for young people & school children, & organizes a census of Delhi’s birdlife through the Big Bird Day, which is an annual event. His expertise has resulted in the publication of several books, & his photographs are regularly featured in Indian & foreign nature magazines and publications.

Jannat Singh

Co-Founder

Jannat is a professional with a career spanning 20+ years with core expertise in HR, Education, Learning & Talent Development across industries ranging from IT-ITeS, Retail, Aviation & Hospitality. She recently got addicted to bird-watching and joined hands with Delhi Bird Foundation (DBF) team with the objective to conserve nature & wildlife for the next GEN. She leads the ‘Educate’ pillar for DBF and is the founder of Cuckoo About Nature or CAN club which is the club created by DBF for kids and by kids. Sanjay Tiwari

Co-Founder

Sanjay comes from a management background with his initial years of professional life spent in the IT industry. He turned an entrepreneur quite early and has created several successful businesses. He currently runs a venture manufacturing nutritional supplements & gluten-free foods. Sanjay got hooked to birds and birding ever since he first visited Keoladev National Park, Bharatpur in mid nineties. He is currently obsessed with the evolution and extinction of life on our planet. He has been actively involved in spearheading bird walks in Delhi NCR for the past few years.

Jayantika Dave

Co-Founder

Jayantika has over 30 years of Human Resource Management, Consulting, & Entrepreneurial expertise. She is an Advisor on HR Excellence, is an Executive Coach, and is on the Boards of various companies. Prior to independent practice she was the Vice President Human Resources with globally renowned firms, such as Hewlett-Packard, Agilent Technologies & Ingersoll Rand. Jayantika is an experienced birder, has travelled widely in India & abroad in the pursuit of this adventure, & continuously looks for ways to share this passion with others.
